Change Is In The Air

Well, it’s been one very busy summer here, at MetaSpring! Unfortunately, we were forced to go on a bit of a blogging hiatus in order to keep up with everything, but we’re back now and we’re doing better than ever! These last few months have given us the opportunity to re-examine our goals as a company and re-assess the tools and methodologies that we employ - resulting in some very exciting changes for MetaSpring.

New Additions to the MetaSpring Family

Thankfully, being exceedingly busy has not put a damper on our growth or prosperity.  In fact, we are extremely fortunate and proud to announce the newest members of our team: Stephen Johnson and Ian Wilson.

Stephen has over 12 years of experience specializing in database design, development and optimization.  At MetaSpring, he’s joined on as our Lead Developer and has already done some great work optimizing our existing client systems and helping to develop a fast and efficient, in-house ORM written in Ruby.

Our newest addition, Ian Wilson, has stepped in to help take on the growing amount of design work we’re receiving at MetaSpring.  Ian’s background is primarily in print design, but in both his print and web work he likes to keep things clean and simple - a design aesthetic we adore around here.

New Technologies

In addition to our new team members, we’ve also begun to make some changes in the way we produce our websites.

Up until now, the majority of our applications have been written in Ruby On Rails - however, over time we’ve come across a few things about the Rails framework that just don’t meet the needs of our clients - or the needs of our internal applications, for that matter.  So, we’ve made the move to Merb - a faster, stronger, and lighter MVC framework that will allow us to develop extremely powerful and scalable applications.

Additionally, we’ve developed a simplistic and lightweight ORM that will allow us to efficiently interact with sophisticated database systems - creating a much smoother and snappier front-end experience.

New Aspirations

With these new tools and teammates, come new ideas and possibilities - and there’s definitely no shortage of either here. With the help of Stephen and Ian, we finally have the time and resources to manage both client projects and our own in-house product development.

So keep an eye out for some exciting new announcements as we work towards the release of our own products.  And now that there are a few more of us on the team, we look forward to being able to bring you more updates, interesting tidbits, and helpful development concepts through the MetaSpring blog.
