Good article and some sound advice. I've been experimenting with a few of these techniques for a couple of years now and I think I concur with the views you have expressed here - particularly with regard to the blog. You have to keep at it, however, a while ago I got busy and as a result the attention to the blog reduced for a while. The result? Traffic dropped, as did the Alexa ranking by about 6 million. A bit of effort has recovered the position, but I now allocate an hour or two each weekend to searching for new post ideas, posting and commenting (like I am now). It works

I was having some problems with doing SEO with my local clients and current. I think Seo might be like an art which means creativity is somewhat involved from an execution standpoint and project management stand point. The mathematical part being the keyword analysis and other redundant and easily graphed stages but in terms of dealing with the client not so easy. If you were to take 100% control and the client just flew around the world for months without a phone or means of communication, would you really do a good job? I had to do this for advanced materials, machining of them and the other processes involved in making amazing super computer components and parts that are just not like traditional silicon boards...I burnt myself out and I know for fact I don't understand the technologies enough to make an educated guess or assumption where the industry is headed. Knowing where the industry is headed is key to getting in early. My long point being, I hate the client and just want to work on my own stuff unless I get offered enough that it helps my children (that I don't have yet) out one day. L
